Best Clarifying Shampoos – Helping to Prevent Hair Loss

Let me start this post by thanking you all for your interest and comments on my last article about hair loss, which has encouraged me to expand on the topic. Here, I would like to talk about the importance of clarifying shampoos in your daily hair care routine.

By now you’ve all probably heard of clarifying shampoos, but are they essential for everyone and what role do they play in preventing hair loss?

Experiencing a certain amount (up to 100 hairs per day) of hair fall is normal and even healthy. In addition, there’s also seasonal hair loss. It normally takes place twice a year, at the end of Summer and then in late Fall. Shedding during these months is temporary and in fact occurs in most mammals, not just humans. So there’s no need to panic and splash-out on expensive hair growth products at the sight of a few hairs in your shower drain.

However, there are factors that may disturb this normal hair growth/fall-out cycle. These are mainly: styling products, pollution, hormones and pregnancy. Styling products and pollution can be particularly detrimental to your scalp, and poor scalp health directly leads to hair loss. Therefore, it’s essential to use hair care products that help maintain a healthy scalp. And subsequently create a healthy environment that’s favorable for hair growth.

What Does Clarifying Shampoo Do And Why Use One?

Clarifying shampoos also known as “purifying,” “detox” and “deep-cleansing,” remove stubborn build-up from your hair and scalp. Think dry shampoos, gels, moisturisers, mousses, hairspray and even heat protectors – they all leave residue on your hair and scalp. Moreover, clarifying shampoos help lift away mineral deposits from hard water, chlorine and other chemicals.  All the above may clog pores on the scalp and prevent your hair from growing at a healthy pace.

How to Use Clarifying Shampoos

I use my clarifying shampoo once or twice a week. This is because I have fine, oily hair, and therefore I tend to use dry shampoo quite a lot. In case you’re wondering, dry shampoo (which for some people like me is a must when styling your hair) is really bad for your hair health as it contains ingredients that block pores in your scalp and therefore prevents your hair from growing.

If you don’t use any styling products or conditioners, you may find yourself in need for a ‘deeper clean’ less often. Clarifying shampoos are particularly handy for days when your hair feels greasy, before colouring, or for effectively removing chlorine and hard water residue after you’ve been in the pool.

My Beauty Insider Recommends:

Here are the best clarifying shampoos that we’ve reviewed so far:

Phytoneutre Clarifying Detox Shampoo

This shampoo is a permanent resident on my shower shelf along with Phyto PHYTOCYANE Scalp Remedy for Thinning Hair and Phytocyane Shampoo. If you would like ‘squeaky clean’ hair then look no further. The evidence is apparent from the first wash. It also adds volume and an incredible shine to your locks.

Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt

I recently tried Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Shampoo. And I must say it’s hair heaven! It completely conquered the hearts of the My Beauty Insider team – No wonder it quickly became a best seller across Europe and is on track for the same in the US. It’s indulgent coarse sea salt texture instantly transfers you to a Mediterranean hair spa.  It’s perfect for sensitive and oily scalps and adds a glorious shine to your hair. I know it’s pricey but as I always say, you can’t put a price on beauty.

My doctor advised me to use clarifying shampoo once every 2 weeks. I’m using a different mild shampoo twice a week. My hair strands are thin and weak. 🙁
