MY 10 MAKE UP BAG ESSENTIALS
MY 10 MAKE UP BAG ESSENTIALS
As long as I can remember I’ve always loved to wear make up. Whilst a good skincare routine can help us maintain healthy skin, make up enhances and transforms the way we look and feel. And it never gets old to play a new character – bombshell, sophisticated lady, uptown girl, rebel, vampire queen…You name it, Charlotte Tilbury has nailed them all!
So when it comes to shopping, nothing excites me more than the sight of a new eyeshadow palette. That feeling of being a little girl trying out mum’s lipstick for the first time is still there.
Yes, I’m a self-professed beauty addict and I do own tons of make up. But I’ve also come a long way from combining smoky eyes together with bright lipstick. Now that I’m in my 30’s, it’s all about a more natural and sophisticated look. Plus, I have some imperfections that need to be concealed on a daily basis.
So in this post, I would like to share with you my essential make up products that I cannot live without. Even the thought I might run out of them makes me panic!
This product has been one of my favourites since 2011. In fact, It was one of the first products that I reviewed on the blog.
This silky primer quickly minimizes the appearance of pores, fine lines and evens out your complexion for a flawless skin finish. It can be used alone or as a primer, under and/or on top of foundation. The big bonus is if you have combination skin like me, it’s oil free and doesn’t clog pores. Despite having a slightly thicker texture, it has less tendency to clump compared with other primers when used excessively.
This is one of best primers on the market hence the price. It’s a mineral-based, water-resistant primer with SPF 15 that creates a smooth and seamless look.
In addition, it fills fine lines and wrinkles, blurs the appearance of imperfections, and boosts makeup’s ability to repel water. With this product, my make up lasts for ages without going patchy, even in the hottest climates. However, I use it only when I apply my BB cream or foundation, on top of the Porefessional.
If you haven’t heard of beauty blender, you probably have an Instagram account. This little spongy miracle has taken over the make up world these past few years. Its surface creates an air-brushed finish ensuring very even application of your foundation. And it can be used all over the face with all types of make up. Just don’t forget to run it under warm water and squeeze out prior to using.
I’m not a big fan of foundations therefore, I opt for the BB creams. I love this 5-in-1 BB CREME AU GINSENG. This light formula has enough coverage to conceal any imperfections, whilst leaving my skin visibly softer, smooth and beautiful, with a silky feel, just like “baby skin”. Korean make up is normally lighter, so go for the ‘dore’ shade if you want to avoid looking too pale.
Illamasqua Gel Sculpt is a perfect non-messy option for subtle contouring. If you like a more natural look you’ll love this product. It has a very light yet water resistant gel formula which is extremely easy and quick to apply. I don’t use it everyday but when I have more time or am willing to make more effort, this is my choice product.
The bronzing powder, on the other hand, is essential. There’s nothing quite like a sun-kissed glow to lift our complexions and mood! And this one is the best I’ve ever tried so far. Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Bronzing Veil fakes that post-holiday glow without any glitter or horrid sheen, for a natural radiance whatever your skin tone. This pro make up artist staple can be used all over your face for a beautiful bronze, or to contour, highlight and add warmth.
This is one product that cannot be overused. It uses Photoluminescent Technology to exhibit depth and dimension. This blush brightens up my complexion and creates luminosity for a healthier glow.
Containing NARS’ exclusive Light Reflecting Complex, this translucent powder optimizes light reflection on your skin. It basically makes fine lines, enlarged pores and wrinkles disappear, leaving your skin looking smooth and imperfection free. This hero product is particularly good for ageing complexions. Vitamin E and glycerin help guard against dryness and provide a luminous soft matte finish. It’s perfect for touch-ups, regulating shine, and setting foundation or BB cream.
To enhance my lips and for a natural look, I line my lips with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Pencil in Nude Kate.
Then I follow with my favourite La Mer Lip Balm. It’s pricey. But once you try it, you’ll understand why you’re paying £48 for it. It really is a miracle in a jar and it lasts for ages. Even the driest lips look and feel smoother, softer and plumper in seconds. It’s the perfect primer for lipstick as well.
